Early on I began to collect different types of glass to work with; mostly smaller pieces from the scrap bin at my local stained glass shop or in small lots on eBay. This is how I came across Fremont glass (the multi-color streaky one in the piece below). Fremont glass is produced here in the U.S. using the traditional old-world, hand-blown method which results in amazing, unique color effects. I was fascinated by this glass, and built a piece around it: Beneath the Surface. As I put it together, I thought of an iceberg - much of which lies below the water's surface, or even thoughts flitting through our consciousness.
