GETTING STARTED...
During my time at the University of Arts in Philadelphia, I try my hand at different fields of art, including stained glass. The result of that class was 'Sophie's Garden', influenced by the Van Gogh painting 'Irises at Saint-Remy', and a tribute to the grandmother I had recently lost. The glass program at the University at that time focuses on hot - or blown - glass, so I continue on with my chosen major of Painting and graduate in 1991.
A few years after graduation, I intern for over a year with a stained glass artist who was experimenting with silkscreening on glass. In between assisting with his pieces, I am able to work on my own project - and have access to glass paints for the first time. 'Sacred' is the product of that experience, where I juxtapose my pet parakeet against a rose window.
From the beginning, my work reflects the influences of other artists' works, the natural world, and the interest in both the representational and the decorative...
