It was love at first sight when I encountered Gustav Klimpt's work in college, and almost inevitable that I would look to his work for inspiration and possibilities in the years to come.
With Klimpt's Orchard, based a detail of his painting Apple Tree II, I want to capture the sense of lushness that I experience when looking at his landscape paintings. In this piece, I also continue to experiment with leaving a few areas open for the sky to peek through.
Not limited to paintings, Gustav Klimpt created a mosaic mural for the dining room of Belgian financier Adolphe Stoclet. Stoclet meets Sunlight is an adaptation of The Knight, a section of this mural. In this piece, I wanted to mirror Klimpt's predominant use of gold. I also attempt sandblasting the surface of the glass for the first time, and am able to subtly incorporate the iconic Klimt swirls (as seen in detail).
